Keith Edmund "Pete" Allen, 77, Covington died at 4 p.m. Wednesday in his home. Mr. Allen was a funeral director and former owner of Allen Funeral Home, Sidell. He also worked at Berhalter & Callahan Funeral homes at Danville, Ill. He retired from General Electric at Mebane, NC after 20 years. Mr. Allen was also a former assistant supervisor for South Moline Township; Rock Island County board of Supervisors and Assistant Chief Inspector of the Illinois Driver's Licen se Department. He was a graduate of Danville HS and Worsham College of Embalming and a WWII Army veteran. Mr. Allen had been a Covington resident the past decade. Memberships included: First United Methodist Church and choir; High 12 Club as past president; Danville Consistory as a life member; OES as past worthy patron; Optimist; Americcan Legion Post 63, Burlingtton NC as past commander; drum corps; past Chief DeGuirre of the 40 & 8; and Vermilion Festival Chorus. He was also a former national ompetitor in the National Rifle Association and a 35-year Boy Scout leader. He was born Oct 1, 1921 at Danville, Ill to Edmund James and Pauline Ruth Spees Allen. He married Mona Bryant Harris May 12, 1989. She survives. also surviving are 4 sons, Keith E, Allentown NJ; William E, Liberty NC; Brian E, Haw NC; and Bruce E, Villa Rica, GA; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Harris, Covington; a stepson, Ed Harris, Gulf Breeze, Fla; a sister, CFelia Jane Lindeman, Sky Valley, Ga and six grandchildren. Memorial services are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church, with Vince Grogg officiating. There will be no visitation. Shelby Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be sent to the First United Methodist Church Choir. - kbz

COVINGTON — Keith Edmund Pete Allen, Covington, died at 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at his residence. Born Oct. 1, 1921 in Danville, Ill., he was the son of Edmund James and Pauline Ruth Spees. He married Mona Bryant Harris May 12, 1989, who survives. He was a graduate of Roselawn Grade School, Danville High School and Worsham College of Embalming. He was a radar operator and gunner in 394th Bombardment Squadron AAF in the Pacific in World War II. He was a former employee of Berhalter and Callahan Funeral Homes in Danville. He was the former owner of Allen Funeral Home in Sidell. He retired from General Electric in Mebane, N.C. after 20 years. He was a former South Moline Township assistant supervisor and Rock Island County Board of Supervisors. He was a former assistant chief inspector of Illinois drivers license department. He was a Boy Scout leader for 35 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and choir, past president of High Twelve Club, life member of Danville Consistory, past worthy patron of O.E.S., Optimist, past commander of American Legion Post 63, Burlington, N.C. drum corps, past Chef DeGuirre of 40 et 8, Vermillion Festival Chorus, former national competitior in NRA. Survivors, besides his wife, include: sons, Keith E. Allen, Allentown, N.J., William E. Allen, Liberty, N.C., Brian E. Allen, Haw River, N.C., Bruce E. Allen, Villa Rica, Ga.; step-daughter, Cheryl Harris, Covington; stepson, Ed Harris, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; sister, Celia Jane Lindeman, Sky Valley, Ga.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services were at 7:30 p.m., Monday at the First United Methodist Church with Vince Grogg officiating. Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church Choir. – jlr
